I've been lucky enough to work with baseball prospects Brennen Davis & Seth Lonsway on creating a variety of custom baseball cards, and look forward to working with new athletes in '23.  You can still purchase some of those cards on my Custom Trading Cards page:

I also plan on expanding my custom cards to new sports, including Obi Toppin of the New York Knicks and Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins.  But, I will also be debuting a large number of baseball cards as well, including superstars like Shohei Ohtani, Julio Rodriguez, Adley Rutschmann, and prospects like Pete Crow-Armstrong, Jordan Lawlar, and many more as time permits.  Working full-time certainly limits my time for creating here in the studio, but I'm looking forward to creating some cool stuff in 2023.  So keep your eyes peeled!

As per usual, I will be providing sort of a catch-up blog posting here for your enjoyment.  So, buckle up, and drink it in...gonna be plenty to see.

We will finally be making our 1st "official" event appearance here in NC, at the upcoming Hops & Shop Market.  The event is being held at the Big Boss Brewery, 1249 Wicker Dr, Raleigh, NC 27604, and will run from 12pm (noon) - 5pm on Saturday, February 9th, 2019.  So, come on out and toss back a few beers with us...and most importantly support us and many other local small businesses!

On hand, we will have our normal array of merchandise: original paintings, limited edition prints, autographed original artwork...and maybe even some new stuff as well.  Make sure to follow us on social media and we will do our best to give everyone our booth location at the event, when provided, so you can come and find us!  We hope to see you there!

I feel like it's taken a bit longer to get here than I had originally hoped, but there is literally always something new to learn when it comes to graphic design/design.  But, with that in mind, I wanted to "officially" offer up my design skills for the freelance world out there.

​I am first to admit that I am a very private person.  I tend to keep my emotions in check, and I tend to keep my business, my business.  I am definitely not one to pour my heart out, but perhaps this blog post will be as close I ever come to that.

The past 6+ months have been a mixed bag of the worst days of my life and some of the best.  Choosing to pick up and relocate to North Carolina wasn't a decision that came easily or without guilty feelings.  My wife and I were both leaving behind our families and friends in a state both of us called home our entire lives.  On top of that, my mother was amid her battle with cancer and was beginning to lose ground on that fight.  And, as much as I felt horrible about moving so far away from my Mom and my family, my mother had always talked about one day moving South and somewhere warm.  Her and I often talked about my desire to also move South.  Which always turned into Mom informing me that she would be living with us for extended periods of time during the winter months, if we did, in fact, move somewhere warm.  I always told her, "Screw that, you can stay 2 weeks at a time, max."  But, she always knew she could stay as long and as often as she wanted.

So, when people were surprised at how quickly my wife and I wanted to get moved down here, I can certainly understand their alarm.  But, just as much as we were excited to start our new lives down here, I also secretly had hopes that we would get settled in quickly enough that Mom could visit us here in NC.  And, while I knew it wouldn't be for the "Momo-esque" (inside family joke) time frames we often talked about, it was something I always dreamed about being able to share with my mother.

Unfortunately, Mom passed away in March of this year, about 2 months after we moved here.  Despite never physically visiting us, I know she has been here in spirit with us, enjoying the mild spring air and sunshine.  Losing loved ones is always hard, but losing my mother was pretty devastating.  Having battled cancer for years, sure, I mentally prepared myself for the eventuality of her passing, but no amount of preparation can truly soften the loss of your mother.  I'd cry in my car during my commute to work after hearing a song that reminded me of her.  I'd cry at work when something would remind me of her.  I'd cry at home watching tv, in the shower, petting our doggie, Gibby...you name it, my tears came often and even more often, unexpectedly.  In the time since her passing, I have certainly cried less and less; however, I just took a minute to gather myself as I typed this, on the brink of tears, so never far from my mind.

Just over 2 months after losing my Mom, my wife and I suffered another almost unbearable loss.  Our dog of just over 14 years, Gibby, had to be put to sleep.  It's difficult to even quantify with words how badly her passing hurt.  And, still does.  It breaks my heart coming home from work and not seeing her face in the window waiting for one of us to come home and take her for a walk.  She was a massive part of our lives, and that void still seems strange on a daily basis.​

But, like I've told many others, this big ole rock keeps spinning no matter how shitty things get.  And, despite how bleak and horrible things can seem in your life, there are people and things in your life that should keep you going and keep getting you out of bed in the morning everyday.  Though things will never be the same in your life after losing loved ones, things do, slowly get better.  It doesn't mean you think of them less, or care any less, it just simply means that you are living your best life, the best way you know how.  I know Mom is still with us, and so is Gibby, and I am focused on trying to live the remainder of my life in a fashion both would approve of and be proud of.

I love and miss you both, not to mention Grandma Yoder, who, honestly is still a bit too fresh of a loss to try and delve into while typing this.  Sorry if this hit you in the feels like it did me, but I felt like people might be wondering where I have been of late, and wanted to make sure I checked in to give you people a quick update.

There were certainly expectations with regards to our relocation to North Carolina.  But, there's really only so much information you can absorb to try and get a feel for a potentially new landing place.  Average temperatures, check.  Job market, check.  Real estate market, check.  Certain things can't be quantified, however, especially general happiness.  Don't underestimate our love for the state of Ohio.  It's a wonderful place, as evidenced by my wife and I having lived there for nearly a combined 80 years.  Sometimes a place speaks to you and calls to you.  The University of Dayton campus was one of those places for me.  The day I visited for the first time, I instantly knew I wanted to attend UD.  North Carolina didn't have that immediate calling, but had more of an accumulating effect on me.  The more we visited, the more it drew us here.  Sure, visiting here last year gave us an inclination of what to expect, but now that we've moved here, it didn't take it long to really sink in, how huge of a leap we just took in our lives.  Are we exponentially more happy here in North Carolina?...it's a little too early to say that, but I can definitely say we are very excited to be here and are very eager to see, do, and experience all that NC has to offer.

With that said, I can tell you one very particular area where Ohio is far superior to that of North Carolina...and that is the DMV.  We knew it would be a bit of a hassle to transfer our driver's licenses, etc., over to NC, but could never imagine the time commitment it would take to simply switch over to a NC driver's license.  First off, the NC DMV doesn't print their new licenses on-site (which Ohio does in a matter of minutes, and on a much more durable surface/material).  Second, depending on the time of day you arrive, you can potentially spend multiple days there...yes, multiple.  We arrived early (the 2nd time we tried to get our licenses, as the wait was over 2.5 hrs on our 1st attempt), and still spent almost 2 hours at the DMV.  But, all is well, we have our new shiny (and surprisingly thin) driver's licenses.

NC DMV aside, we couldn't be happier with our decision to relocate to NC.  Depending on how well you know me, you may have noticed a transition for me occurring as I move towards a new career path for me in graphic design/illustration.  Ideally, I would have found this path for myself much earlier in life, but better late than never, right?!  It's been exciting and frustrating learning a lot of new software over the past couple of years, and there's simply only a certain amount of time I have to devote to learning a new craft away from my "day job" and my artwork.  But, thank JoBu for YouTube and the plethora of free tutorials out there that have helped me hone my Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign skills.  I'm not sure how long it will take to earn my first full-time gig in graphic design, but I am both hopeful and optimistic I will get an opportunity very soon.

With that in mind, just wanted to pass along some new designs (granted, small, so hopefully will limit any thieves from stealing them):

Downside to moving a long distance: it doesn't allow me much time in the studio to work on any paintings currently...which is rather frustrating for me.  Upside to moving a long distance: it does allow me some time to work on new tshirt design ideas and just design/illustration ideas in general.  So, I guess I just have to take the good with the bad and make some kick ass lemonade.

With that in mind, thought I'd post one of my newest creations, and one that I am particularly fond of already.  Shocker, it's baseball-themed.  Hey, pitcher and catcher report to Spring Training in a little over a month, so now that Ohio State's football season is officially over (thanks Playoff Committee btw), I can return my focus to baseball again.  Not that football really distracts much any more.

So, without further ado.  Here you go, entitled "Making Adjustments".

Another newly added design this week.  "Be Support-ive".  I may still go back and tinker with this design a bit and incorporate an accompanying jockstrap, but just thought I'd put this one out there first to gauge the reception of it and go from there.  This design was inspired by tshirts we had as kids that were printed up and circulated on Indiana University's campus in Bloomington in the 1990s.  They were amazing.  And, also got my best friend and I into trouble at school for wearing them.  Mr. Peverly did not agree with our fashion choices and seemed to take it rather personally...making us wear them inside out for the remainder of the day.  Honestly, he was kind of a dick anyways.

Well, I think I'll wrap this up, but just wanted to share some of my newest creations with y'all (practicing my Southern slang to better integrate with the locals once we move).  Thanks for checking out my stuff, and hopefully buying some of it !  If nothing else, if you think a friend, colleague, family member, coworker, parent, or Mr. Peverly would like one, pass it along and perhaps they will thank you by treating you to a wonderful pastry from your local bakery.  Or maybe they'll just go about their day, not thanking you and being a shithead.  I like your chances for the pastry though.  

Just remember kids, "Knowing is half the battle."  Always wondered what the other half is, but G.I. Joe never divulged that nugget of information as a kid.  Til next time.

Having spent my entire adult life here in the state of Ohio, I am excited about the next chapter beginning in North Carolina.  (Sidenote: I refer only to permanent residence...I have left the state of Ohio and the country to travel, so I haven't lived a completely sheltered Ohio life.)  I did debate as to whether I should begin with a "taking my talents to North Carolina" line, but let's face it, our "Decision" isn't quite as newsworthy as the best basketball player on the planet leaving Cleveland the 1st time around (but certainly not the last time).  Plus, wouldn't want any backlash from clients & collectors, who might take to the streets, burning any artwork by me.  I am, of course, being sarcastic...surprise.

I look forward to immersing myself into the great art scene surrounding the area we will be moving into, and am hopeful that it will be a busier time for me as an artist.  Hopefully they will welcome us "Yankees" with Cheerwine and BBQ...and maybe some frozen hot chocolate from Videri's when the temps warm up a bit.

And, while I will certainly miss having a MLB ballpark close by for when my Cubs are in town, there are so many minor league teams and great collegiate baseball programs in the area, that I will more than get my "fill" of baseball each year.  Plus, DC isn't too far away if I get an itch to see my guys.  With that said, I hope to start creating some NC-themed artwork in the coming months...so keep your eyes peeled this year for some of that.  But, as always, I am available for commissions, so if you have a custom project you'd like, just email me to get things rolling!
